Suggest a UX related Birds-of-a-Feather!

Q: What is a Birds-of-a-feather?

A: It’s where we pick a few members of our XD team to to gather in a specified location to host a get together, where you will have a chance to meet, chat, share, and learn in a less structured and highly interactive environment.

So… this is where we would like to hear your thoughts. What are some topics that you would like to cover? They can range from:

  • • Discuss AIR. What is it? What is the AIR Experience Model? What else…?
  • • Designing for a holistic experience across devices & platforms.
  • • Designer/ Developer workflow.
  • • Prototyping
  • • Who is XD?
  • • Etc.

This is just a quick list of potential topics. I would love to get feedback on possible topics that you would like to cover. Let us know…

Squarespace = Simple Web Publishing

This seems like a great product. I will be signing up for their service to check it out. But at first glance, I really love the interaction model for editing and manipulating content directly. The overall design of the experience has been executed with such detail and finesse. Well done!

AIRmikan, give it some attention!

AIRmikan... Go download it now!

“Airmikan is desktop virtual pets of digital comic [mikan seijin gril], which is based on Adobe AIR. This Airmikan is selfish so you need to look after carefully. It will die or become so big and your computer will be running slow. You need to watch out!”

It’s nice to see that there is a conceptual model with AIR that far out weighs creating the same experience in the browser. They are utilizing a transparent window (multiple actually) that seems to be a key feature in defining this experience.

This is a really cute experience. I had a similar idea for a “digital organism”. That as you hunt for content and consume content the “digital organism” then reflects this as a healthy activity and the end user is rewarded with a healthy “digital organism”.

Experiences, not RIE or RIA

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

I will have to chime in on Ethan’s post about using the acronym RIE instead of RIA. Ethan’s insight is spot on, but why replace a geek driven acronym with another geeky acronym. Let’s just go back to describing what we create/ consume as “Experiences“. And not worry about communicating whether it’s a desktop or internet experience. They are all “experiences”. So lets keep it simple.

RIA Design Process

Sunday, October 22nd, 2006

I am not sure how much information is out there for the everyday designer about designing RIA experiences. So I will be putting together some material on some sample project templates and worflows (with the associated skillsets required) to be successful in designing engaging RIA’s. So enough with the hype.
